The Terra Cotta Warriors

We took an overnight train: Selia, Olivia and me and I was so excited. Olivia had to sleep in a section with a family. Selia and I shared our sleeper car with three other people.  A man and woman slept on the top bunk and an old woman slept on the bottom bunk.  We had the other side. Space was tight but it didn't matter to me.  I was, at last, going to see the Terra Cotta Warriors.


We arrived early in the morning and get a friend of Selia's.  He showed us where to get something to eat and then he took us to the site. It is an enclosed dome, much larger than a football field.

When we walked in, I stopped in my tracks as I couldn't believe the size of this massive gravesite.  I had seen photos of this image but until it hit me in the face, I couldn't get a real sense of its true size. Mostly people walked around in silence because we were all concentrating on the details of each and every soldier.

Selia wandered around and spoke English to anyone who would speak to her.  She came looking for me to tell me, "I met a man who says he is from Poland.  Do you know Poland.? Have you ever been there? Where is it?"


Olivia followed me around and blurted out, "This is amazing. I am so lucky to be here." And that is exactly how I felt as well.

The volume of soldiers is overwhelming



More and more soldiers are being discovered everyday.

No matter where I looked, I saw something different, something caught my eye.


Every soldier is unique and filled with exquisite detail. 

Running Through The Fountain

Today is the first day of Spring Festival and Anna is now inn the USA, completing an internship.  This is the first time she is not celebrating Spring Festival with her family in China

Selia is on the mend

Selia has been having trouble walking and has been in and out of the hospital for the last couple of weeks.  Doctor visit in China last about three minutes, a diagnosis is often made on the spot and a treatment plan is drawn up right there.  There is often no discussion of any follow up. 


Dear Bridget,

I have been doing acupunture recently and am feeling much better. I started walking this morning, it felt great to be able to walk!! I have 10 more days to finish the first therapy. Will keep you updated.

The examination results showed that I am having herniated discs. The doctor recommended physical therapy and infusions. I chose 2-week physical therapy. Will see how it goes.

Not feeling so good being a "disabled" person.

Anna Lee's Internship Update

I wrote back to Anna Lee to find out what she will be doing in the USA.  It is still a little unclear as to what she will be doing but, regardless, it will be a great opportunity for her.



I will be helping in the program called Teacher's Shadow in January, and from February through March i will sitting at Education Department for Student Service. I planned to travel to some places in the states, but not yet sure yet...
